Google rolled out multiple algorithms over the years and one of the major ones was Penguin, which basically gives every site a valued and weighted score. For instance, CNN could literally put out a 6 sentence article on a beaten to death keyword like "relationship advice" , and rank first page the same day. They have a Page Rank (PR) of 8 which, if even a small time site got a link on there, would boost their rankings tremendously...
With that being said, basically, the coli is valued at what it is because of audience loyalty and visitors, and not due to high authority links...it's unique because Google has stated many times that forums don't really count for much..its not the first time they lied about how sites are ranked though

There's so many ways, but just a few things:
I'd retool their on page SEO and target specific keywords first and foremost
Then I'd publish content at least twice a day with high quality articles over 750 words and use heavy click bait titles, but would make sure they delivered....for example:
-Top 15 funniest forum moments on the coli or the best coli smiley remixes ever
-21 (or however many you could find) unusual things to happen in sports this year
-the best up and coming rappers to look out for in 2015
I'd do some news jacking and report on trending topics ie. The dizaster vs Cassidy battle is coming out soon... buy the ppv, then provide live updates via Twitter and then write an article ASAP afterwards about the best moments
I'd also take advantage of the monthly visitors and try to use that as a selling point to get an interview with someone important ie. over 50000 followers. ..
After all that was set, I'd probably take out a few ads on other relevant sites and try to get those links out to as many publications as possible

I didn't think the site was 3 years old already. They were planning this for months before the migration. So um how much has the site value gone up from all the supporters investments? Site showing about 300k. 40% to cook and brooklynszon each and the rest of us will split 20%. Or 15%, we willing to negotiate.

no.. cause i doubt the site MAKES 300k.. there's not a lot of ads on here and forums don't really make that much money
for 300k you could easily open you're own forum and finance the money to hire a real staff AND get famous people to do interviews and shyt like that
i'm not trying to shyt on the coli or anything of that fashion... but i couldn't see a company stepping like, here's 300k in cash for the coli straight up
what's a domain name?? they would have been sold this shyt, told everyone to move over to thesholi.com and used that 300k to fund that
trust me you're wrong..... the value is in the amount of members it has..its all about traffic.... you could spend $3,000,0000 dollars on a fancy website and still not end up with half of the members the coli has.... do you know how long it takes to build up a customer base?
for 300k its much easier to buy a site that already has a considerable amount of traffic and subscribers...... this is what you take to potential advertisers..... advertisers don't give a fukk how good a website looks, all they are interested in is the amount of traffic it generates
type in NAIRALAND and see how much the website is worth....then go on the site and see whether the layout is even 20% as good as the coli......

i'm not talking about the layout.. i'm talking about the advertising and ability to make money.. and it being a forum
we can all see how much things are WORTH
that has zero to do with how much a real life company is gonna come out of pocket... then turn around and say that the traffic, is gonna be equal to the amount of money we will make back
if they quietly sold this site tomorrow, and then the shyt started popping up with ads and revenue streams to make back the 300k.. how long do you think it'd be before they made that 300k back?
meanwhile my website is worth $847 dollars... shyt been up for 6 months and i can assure you, it wouldn't be worth the $847 dollars you'd pay for it.. it's just an estimate based on pageviews and what they think you can make from advertising
not what you actually make and how many of those views turn into advertising clicks and purchases.. which is the real barometer of how much your site is worth
