looking back at it.....it does seem like a poorly worded question

63-17+19=65

If you do it in the order it's written:

X - 19 + 17 = 63
X - 2 = 63
X = 65

Weird though because if you do the problem backwards:

Now there are 63 people on the train
17 people get on
19 people get off

63 + 17 - 19 = 61

You have 63 starting on opposite sides of the = sign which changes the algebra.
