It's factual. Sonic and what's been done with the character is infinitely more interesting than anything that's been done with Mario. Sonic had SatAM, multiple interesting comics, solid movies, and video games all with interesting stories. Mario's story is an afterthought and has been interesting as a character in next to nothing. Does Mario even really have a distinct personality? Sonic clearly does.

Mario is basically modern day Mickey Mouse, not even steamboat Willy.

Sonic has had multiple interesting stories in various mediums, it’s why even when the games get trashed the movies and merch sell so well. Sonic is an all aorund more well rounded and endearing character.
