Who's gonna be paying who in this situation? Therein lies the reason why major labels, for all the corruption and shady shyt they're on, exist.

The artists and management can get paid directly. I know it seems like a stretch, but its not far off.

Theres too many "consultants" and middle-men leeching off the system. These major labels really arent needed anymore, and the more that people start discovering alternative avenues to hearing music, the less relevance they will have

This is abit fishy tbh, so how come some artists finish albums in like 2 weeks (waka flocka, curren$y) still have features and still release on time

There's not even as many middle men now because so many labels are downsizing and laying off people. Now what happens is that there's a middle man representing a bunch of people which leads to people feeling overlooked and ignored. Look at Frank Ocean for example. He got signed and when Nostalgia Ultra blew up Def Jam was looking to sign him not realizing they had already done so 2 years prior.

It's nothing to actually hear music or to provide alternative outlets for it. It's convincing the artist to abandon the notion of being compensated from that album or song just for putting it out that's the tough sell.

:pachaha:

Right. It is a tough sell, but ultimately, artists will have a career that they actually OWN and can control.

The only way a "label" can be justified at this point is as a "bank account". Where, they put up the money, and get a share of the returns. The concept of coaching, branding, ARing etc, is a waste of time and resources because artists are smarter and more knowledgable than ever

We are not quite at the stage where a truly "independant" artist can penetrate the masses, but I love seeing these labels and execs crash and burn for what they did to talented, creative people over the years
