Police in Grand Prairie, Texas are currently in a standoff with an allegedly armed man who is sending live updates to Whisper, the anonymous secret sharing app. In one message, the user claims, "I am going to die today."

"We have confirmation from the interior of the vehicle that this is indeed the guy in the standoff," Slade Sohmer, Whisper's Head of News, told the Daily Dot. "We're actively in touch with him as we speak."

And according to series of direct messages sent to us between the man in the standoff with police and Whisper's Josh Chavers, police first approached the man because he apparently intimated that he is considering killing himself.


This dude told the CEO of Whisper that he wants them to shoot him to prove to the world how fukked up they are. Question is....hasn't this nikka heard of twitter?

Update, 7:14 p.m.: The Dallas Morning News reports that the standoff has ended "peacefully" after four hours. Police apparently used tear gas to draw the man—33 and from Grand Prairie—out of his car.

A man in Grand Prairie, Texas, used the anonymous sharing app Whisper to document a standoff he was having with police, according to Whisper editor in chief Neetzan Zimmerman. The 33-year-old man has been now taken into custody after police used tear gas to force him out of his vehicle, Dallas News reports. The standoff lasted four hours.

That man may have been armed, according to NBC, and police had his maroon SUV surrounded by armored police vehicles since around 1 p.m. CDT. The man inside had been using the app Whisper to post things like "I have 50 cops around me" and "I'm going to die today."
