I get your point and yes it makes sense. Unfortunately humans will just go to the next thing which is the NFL coming back and everyone will just shift focus to watching football. We know the NFL theyll do a half ass anti-racism promo to check off the box and then back to scheduled programming. I personally dont care if they comeback or not. I dont like how they're making Kyrie the bad guy for being like hol up let's get everybody voice in this.
I mean they should be worried they're league was hit relatively hard by rona with players catching it and they're the only ones who've been through it.

Either way if they arent wrapped up by the time NFL starts theyre 3rd fiddle regardless.

If recent events have taught us anything, its that following the status quo accomplishes absolutely NOTHING. The moment protestors stopped singing Kumbaya and We Shall Overcome and started fukking up these white people’s buildings and businesses all of a sudden Black Lives Matter became a REAL thing. With almost every Cac owned conglomerate making statements in support of combating white supremacy and law reform. Conversations about defunding corrupt police precincts became actual ACTION.

NBA players “kicked the message” while playing in the face of Trayvon Martin’s murder. They “Kicked the message” while playing amidst the Donald Sterling fiasco. If the BLACK NBA superstars actually sat out the season in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and the call for systemic change in both Law enforcement and the judicial system, I would bet everything it would have a more powerful effect than a soundbyte after the game or an emotional instagram post.

“The Board of Player Representatives of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) has approved further negotiations with the NBA on a 22-team return to play scenario to restart the 2019-20 NBA season. The NBPA didn’t approve a season. It approved a scenario. In the meantime, the NBA and the players who would like to trudge ahead with the season took a PR victory lap before earning it. Friday’s Zoom meeting was a reminder that you should never trot out the yellow championship rope until the game’s been won.

Consider all that’s been finalized before safety protocol: exhibition matches, roster sizes, access to golf courses; the time, location, format of games. If you’re an NBA player in the dark, why wouldn’t you be raising your hand wondering who’s watching out for your health and whether the continuation of the season is at all a worthwhile exercise?

Considering the lack of effort to temper the public’s enthusiasm about the season returning, one wonders if the framing was deliberate.
