I'm going to refrain from commenting on Ryse due to my limited experience with it. But let me start by saying I don't consider fighting games are not repetitive. The constraints are the same every time, like a basketball game or like a boxing match. But what happens within those constraints play out differently almost every single time. The options given within those constraints are actually very varied. Even a good Ryu vs Ryu match is exciting, surprising and impressive.Sidenote.....
Repetitive?? What game isn't repetitive?? Nothing is more repetitive than racing games and fighting games but yet no one uses that term to knock them
I think that when people criticize something as "repetitive" it has a lot to do with "mindlessness". It doesn't take much effort to complete this task and I can power through it without much thought. I get this feeling a lot with JRPGs. I feel like JRPGs are 100+ hour games where the majority of that time is me doing something I don't have to think very hard about. It requires little dexterity, little thought but heavy time commitment. That, to me, feels extremely repetitive. Meanwhile, fighters feel very varied because every good match requires focus and engages me actively.
