YeS but in Tiricos case it's more about the fascination with Italians that plagues minorities from the North-East.

See my first post in the thread. Not sure why but Italians seems be be held in very high regards there. So obviously if he was raised by an italian family, told he was Italian while going up in an environment where being Italian is put on a pedestal then OF COURSE he'll fight the fact that he's anything other than Italian with every inch of his being

I remember the first time i met n Italian in Miami. Mofos were from up north.I had been living in the U.S. less than 2 years. I dont remember how the conversation went but for some reason their homegirl felt the need to let people know they "arent white. They're Italian". At the time i didnt understand the the difference because them mofos looked white to me. Then after watching a few movies like "Do the right thing" and others i started to notice that Italians were viewed differently then other whites. And the more I listened to people from NY (black and white) talk, rap music, and other things i realized there was a lot of pride associated with Italians. Now you put Tirico in such environment and add what he's been told all his life then of course he's gonna want to be part of it and deny his blackness as much as possible. Thats like how haitian kids were trying to pass for jamaican back in the days. Or these Puerto Ricans kids i knew that were tryin to pass for Italian.
