In this case it’s not unwarranted. It’s not hating as it’s that OP is wrong in this case. He was hated once he started speaking out against the Vietnam War.
The question that needs to be asked is what is a liberal really in the context of American society. We have a lot of people who claim to be liberal or leftist but fall in the realm of what this song describes.
We have supppsed liberal or left leaning members of Congress who whine about Trump being a meanie and saying bad things but turn around and reject a very mild motion to maybe say hey you need a warrant before you cast a wide net on American’s information and giving Trump a nut job more power. Liberals who support regime change of governments democratically elected or otherwise. We just had a democrat elected governor in Virginia who basically said fukk expanding Medicaid which isn’t some extreme left position to have.
There are a lot of supposed liberals who are pretty right of center. Obama himself said he would be a conservative politician in many places in Europe, which gives insight of what is considered “liberal” or “left” in this country.
