Boxing's "decline" was due to a terrible heavyweight division for about the past 15-20 years. This Joshua cat may bring the heavyweights back though. We'll see.

The effect PPV has on the sport can't be stressed enough either.....

That's why PBC is so important. Getting boxing back on network television and cable without people having to pay for big fights will drive interest in the sports.

80s, 90s and even the early 00s still had heavyweights, the lack of heavyweight boxers is why the drop off happened. The lack of star power today has nothing to do with the drop off boxing experienced prior to this point, as in viewership was already declining. It's all about the heavys.

It's also why boxing seems to be generating interest now with Wilder, Fury, Parker and Joshua.

Wilder-Washington Peaked at 1.86 Million Viewers; Averaged 1.76M - Boxing News

The PPV Numbers For Joshua-Klitschko Are Bloody Staggering | Balls.ie

People want to see the freakishly large dudes throw hands.

Wilder ,Fury and Parker don't have shyt to do with boxing gaining momentum .Wilder is a big ass American athlete knocking nikkas out left and right but isnt a draw outside of Tuscaloosa

That 1.86 Million peak for Wilder is cool and all but Thurman-Garcia peaked at over 5 million ..Errol Spence peaked at over 4 million. Hell,Berto Vs Ortiz had. 1.5 million ,Broner is a major draw when he pops up and NONE of those nikkas are true stars

Boxing is making a mini resurgence because of Canelo vs GGG ,Floyd's Conor fukkery and the intrigue of Anthony Joshua but even he needs more exposure in the U.S market
.

They just need they heavyweight division back. I don't even follow boxing heavy....but they had the showtime match on at the barbershop last week & I was legitimately hype to watch the matches.

1. Other sports became popular

2. PPV made it less accessible for younger fans

3. Too many champions, hard to tell who's really "the man" any more
