He said later that he went in after and intentionally lowered the pitch on this song to artificially make his voice sound deeper than it really was, but it also changed the pitch of the beat and that it pissed Alc off

Evidence autographed this one for me. He was on tour with Little Brother back in 2008. I still have pics from that Wilmington show. Also, if anyone has ever played NBA Live 2004, then you know Evidence. Love and War was the song played when you picked teams

Very much so, yeah. No hype man. Good breath control. Doesn't rhyme over vocal tracks. Engages with the crowd. Often brings out guests and features.

Low key Weather or Not be the best introduction to the Weather series @L $ C I don't think it's the best in the Weather series (Weatherman, Layover, Cats & Dogs, and Weather or Not), but he made Weather or Not to kind of sound like a "Greatest Hits" album of songs that he hadn't released yet. The album isn't crazy cohesive IMO (like many Greatest Hits album) but each song is kind of large and has its own feel and identity.
I still really nudge people towards Weatherman or Layover first, but his rapping is significantly improved by the time we get to Cats & Dogs and Weather or Not. And then Unlearning Vol 1 is just totally different and way more stream of consciousness type bars and more minimalist beats. Low key Ev has had at least 3 different rhyme styles and eras over the years.
He also has a hard to find project of all Beatles samples called I Don't Need Love that is really dope. It's not on any streaming platforms though. And he has a duo album with Alchemist called Step Brothers that's underrated.
I never really liked early Ev in Dilated Peoples, but when Layover came out he became one of my top 5 artists, and has remained in there. Also @L $ C his solo career was inspired by Big Pooh's Sleepers albums, and he has Pooh and Phonte featured on his albums. And his new album Unlearning Vol 2 drops on August 15

I agree with all of this, WoN has a lot of great songs, but at the end of the day it's the project I come back to least
C&D, Layover (this also is where I became a stan lol), Unlearning Vol.1 are absolute gems

Yep. Layover and Unlearning 1 are also his shortest works, and anytime a rapper has more monotone voice, I think shorter projects are better introductions. Until I appreciated his style more, that Weatherman debut solo was just way too long a listen for me.

Post an update after you listen to some stuff. IMO Ev is one of the best at talking about real life shyt and troubles, but spinning into something positive and not sounding emo or sad about it.
It sounds cheesy but his music has been real motivational and gotten me through a lot of family illness and other hard times.
His new single starts by saying “I make the music for me but I got You in mind”. That’s basically his major theme as a solo artist.
