He should really focus on winning a local election in West Virginia first. Much better for him to do that than run for President and not get the time of day

He'll get the time of day. Once he says what he has to say on the national stage.

Blue-collar, former military, who's able to pivot Trump voters from "deplorables" to "desperate", and is embracing Progressive ideas. He won't win the Presidency, but he'll win a House or Senate seat.

He won a State Senate seat in 2016. He just resigned last week to run for POTUS.

I was thinking that even though he lost his US House bid, he'd do pretty well statewide and run against Capito in 2020.

It's really simple OP. The media is fascinated with Trump supporters and in 2016 Ojeda was a Trump supporter, which makes his attacks on the other Democrats about authenticity hilarious but I digress.

Anyway, since he's turned on Trump for being a fraud the media finds him alluring even though he's mediocre #thatprivilege. The headlines are basically "Trump Supporter Gets Disillusioned; Runs As Democrat", which is in line with all of those stupid think pieces they've done about Trump supporters except there's a twist. They also believe he will have some type of special quality that allows him to speak to MAGA-Americans because he used to be one. Purportedly a MAGA whisperer who can deliver the WWC back to the Democratic Party.

At best his run should help bolster his prospects in West by God Virginia, but if he wants anything beyond that he's dumber than he looks.

The twist is he's a lifelong Democrat

Remember, WV was a reliably blue state on the local level for nearly 8 decades since the FDR and the New Deal. The Dems controlled the state legislature for decades until 2014.

They haven't voted for a Dem POTUS since Clinton.

So he was supposed to vote for Hillary, an elitist who didn't step a foot in his state?

ok patel
what the hell is an "elitist".....

wouldn't a trust fund kid who had hundreds of millions funneled to him by his father to avoid taxes and maintains a network of shady oligarchs to keep his failing businesses propped up count as "elitist"?

Hillary is a career politician, that can't be argued.... but what makes her an elitist and not Trump?

Yeah, "elitist" has to be the most overused and vacuous term used in politics for the past couple years.

As far as I can tell the only thing it means is "anybody who doesn't play to the lowest common denominator".

who said Trump wasn't an elitist? trump is the epitome of a coastal elite.

BUT....and I hate to say it....BUT trump at least went to West Virginia and promised he would bring back their shytty coal jobs. that's a helluva lot more than Hillary, who called many of the people there "deplorables" and said she was going to put the coal miners and coal plants out of business.

I mean, I didn't necessarily disagree with Hillary on either comments, but that's where she lacked polish as a politician. Bernie Sanders (yea I'm bringing him into it) went to WV and got a standing ovation from the people there because he went there and said that America treats WV like a forgotten child. He could have easily been talking about Hillary in those statements.

Building On Clinton's Plan To Revitalize Coal Country

Hillary actually had a PLAN for coal country

Trump was pandering without actually coming up with a solution to a dying industry...

I would only be able to understand your point if I was ignorant of the actual policies Hillary stood for....

That just so happened to be a large portion of rural voters..

And i still don't know what "elitist" means..

I mean what's there to wonder? It's populist rhetoric for sure but populism works :manny:

I also doubt him actually wanting to go the full way on this presidential run, guessing he's just trying to get his name recognition up for the next state elections, but then again who knows?
