History repeats itself. Plus other than technology...we are exactly like Rome.
i deleted several lines of text from my previous post because of the technology component.
in the days of Rome an army could march off to fight people they have never seen.
today, any nation that goes to war with another nation KNOWS what those people look like and who the people of that place are to some degree or another.
there are so many nuanced points i could bring up that you or anyone else could bring up.
Roman power became decentralized.
power was being wielded from outside of Rome by Generals who conquered in the name of Rome...then imposed their will upon Rome.
this happened in many different forms that i will not go into.
is America the new Rome?
if you take this question at face value...yes.
it is an empire that will at some point cease to exist as what you recognize it...but it's legacy will carry on in many ways and will be studied for generations.
