I agree with the spirit and idea of this post but you're keeping it too simple.

Just by saying this shyt he has immediately estranged himself from his family or community. It's like if Mowgli's son came out of the closet, there's no room left for him in their homes anymore. That's a pretty big sacrifice to make. It'll be interesting to see how his kin respond to that, but i'm pretty sure he won't enjoy hanging around them much anymore. Separating yourself from the code that your family lives by is a huge step.

if you parents had you living in church day in day out, and banging out that good book 24/7. then you hit college and that freedom and all those ideas coming from different areas can change your outlook. doesnt mean said guy will give up his religion per se. but it does mean he may back up a little bit and take another look at what he was taught/how he was taught. same goes here. most people get a bit more open to other races as they go to college. what then happens is as they get older, they turn more and more racist if thats obvious or hidden cism depends on the person. we will only know if he's completely a changed man is when the ish hits the fan and he's faced with a choice.. be racist or ride with people of color. and it has to be something where it will effect him personally. not just denouncing right now.

Should families forgive you all for the way you've treated members of the opposite sex. Demoralizing women and sending into downward spirals of madness. Hatred takes a lot of energy. To take the yoke of filth off of your neck is liberating and it enables a friend to really enjoy his life. In 2013, in the information age its difficult to live in a bubble of hatred. While certain predjudices probably still dwell demonically in his mind due to his programming this is a great first step, which is, admitting you have a problem.
