All PlayStation 4 games will support Remote Play on the Vita because the function is baked into the console, Sony has announced.
"On PlayStation 4 , it just happens. You just make a PS4 game, it supports Remote Play," Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida told Engadget.
"The single biggest issue, why there are not many PlayStation 3 games that support Remote Play, was that it was optional – the system didn't do much.
“The game has to set aside some memory or CPU to be able to do that, and usually, memory is the most precious resource that [development] teams fight amongst each other for."
Having Remote Play functionality built-in meant developers only needed to calibrate their game's controls for the Vita, said Yoshida.
"Please make sure that when you play your games on Vita, the control is good. That's the minimum thing we're asking them to do," he said.
Obviously, games that require the PlayStation Eye or Move will be exempt from the system’s Remote Play requirement.
Sony has also revealed that PlayStation Network will finally support cross-game chat.
Sony UK boss Fergal Gara told Official PlayStation Magazine that although multiplayer on PlayStation 4 would require a PlayStation Plus subscription, the extra revenue money meant that more network features could be implemented.
These included the PlayStation 4’s share features, but also a more reliable “higher performance network”, and of course cross-game chat.
“I suppose wasn’t delivered upon for PS3″, said Gara, because, “it became technology that would be difficult to place on the architecture we had in place”.
