It doesn't say that their AAA titles don't make them money. They make money. What they are not going to do is make the same amount of money as multi-platform titles, that they don't have to spend the resources to develop. So of course CoD subsidizes the rest of their operation. Which is what Microsoft wants to take away. Which is why Sony has an issue. It's all about the money and what it takes to run that whole branch of Sony's operation.

An even poorer business plan is to not release games for an entire console generation and scramble to buy up publishers and then have to assure fans that if it falls through you won’t sell off the entire brand.

Poor business planning. On the SNES, Nintendo put out about 24 solid games. Between Capcom, Konami and Squaresoft they put out about 60. And there's a bunch of solid bangers in that 60. Now I wonder where Nintendo got a lot of it's money on? On top charging the hell out of their cartridges.
