Sony is worried about Scorpio and is looking to upgrade Neo Specs

Conversation is around the 6:50 mark. Here is some of what they say

- Sony has looked at upping the power compared to original spec
- There was an internal worry that the Neo may look outdated compared to Scorpio next year
- How much they can adjust Neo before launch, is unknown
- Final dev kits will release around the September 7th reveal

Again this is just a conversation between two reliable guys in the industry, they aren't outright reporting that Neo will indeed see a power increase.

I chuckled when I seen the thread title in my alerts mention.

On topic though, I see absolutely no reason at all for Sony to be worried.

1. If Neo launches in a couple of months or so, it'll be the most powerful console out NOW and for at least a year or more until the Scorpio comes out.
2. It will be most likely cheaper than the Scorpio now and probably by the Scorpio's launch.
3. A year headstart is actually beneficial and Scorpio launching next year isn't going to suddenly cause a 20M gap to close. That's just stan delusions.

It's too late, but it's not a biggie.

The reason why is that while it will upscale to 4k, the core game will be no more than 1080p60 (in NEO mode; possibly QHD) and still the base regular resolution for the OG PS4s.

Both Neo and Scorpio will be held back by the fact that the games have to be compatible with the OG XB1 and PS4 and both companies have said they are not making Scorpio or NEO specific games.

While we may want Scorpio or NEO only games, both companies don't want to fragment their userbase and I have to agree even though it sucks from that perspective.

Can they change that stance? Absolutely, but there really isn't a point to do so and I have to agree. At least we get mid gen upgrades now, but you're not going to get dedicated games on stronger hardware until the PS5 and XBox 2 drop.

As long as NEO can run full 1080p60 (or even QHD - 2560×1440) in NEO mode, it'll be fine. Save the true successor for the PS5 where you won't have to worry about being compatible with the PS4 shyt.

And I've given up on my 4K projector dream for now @Leasy

I'm gonna have to seal that hole in my ceiling until these native 4K projectors come down in price.

I'll be copping a 4K set for my mancave instead for now.

Once the native 4K projector prices get realistic, I'll cop then and move the 4K TV to my sons' playroom (they got a struggle 40 incher up now that I'll move to one of my spare bedrooms once this happens )

Phil Spencer stated that this will coexist with current system. It will be like PC you want a gtx1080 or a 1070. Sony will be in deep shyt once we see how third party approaches this omg

It's the time we live in man. Technology is rapidly changing and you will see different forms of system. Pc is a prime example.

Dog, he said it plainly. No need to cyse. They are not going to split their userbase like this. it came straight from E3. Working on Scorpio games does not mean Scorpio ONLY games. The games HAVE to be able to run on XB1 and XB1S.

I don't want to say it's anti consumer but it feels like it at times. As soon as something new is in development, the current standard is tossed to the bushes. shyt is stressful. I was trying to find my if my tv would get the full benefits of an X1S and it took me down a rabbit hole of a bunch of a high tech jargon, I tapped out after reading the 3rd paragraph.
