I don't think Sony ever announced that Bluetooth headsets will work. I think folks just assumed it would work because the PS4 has Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR. I'm Interested to know why Bluetooth headsets won't work at launch, though.

They say "yes we will support ps3 headsets"
And then they let the articles and fanboys fill in the blanks. There are multiple articles repeating this same thing, so much so that people thought their headsets would just work, out of the box.
Not once did Sony step back in and correct the innacuracies that they put out there. They were just gonna let you figure out when you got your ps4 home.
This is we been trying to tell some of you cats. Sony is broke and desperate to win this "war" So of course they want only sony products to work.
