It is true though, it's such a volatile business model. If they need Call of Duty to generate revenue that bad they should have done anything they can to aquire at least the IP a long time ago that's the only way to ensure a stable business model, otherwise you leave the possibility of getting the rug pulled from under you, like what is probably going to happen soon.

You're missing the context of what I'm saying. Why base so much of your revenue around something, YOU DON'T EVEN OWN AND YOU CAN LOSE AT ANYTIME instead of finding a way to do it yourself. They have the resources to make their own Call of Duty and they have the IP's already. If you wanted/needed Call of Duty that bad you should have found a way to buy it. Microsoft jumped at the first chance they got, Sony should have tried they damn selves.

MS has caught on to this, Sony Stan's ain't caught on yet. But the whole complete reliance on third party is not something they are interested in.

Its part of the reason they aren't willing to shell out big bucks on 3rd party exclusive deals or IPs just to do it.

It all goes back around into growing gamepass as a service and owning just as much as of what's on there as they do leasing stuff.

Microsoft didn’t even have to buy them.

Activison was in the process of fukking over their own bag.

Imagine had Activision canceled itself and playstation died with them

The irony of sony stans being “concerned” about gamepass sustainability when it’s Playstations entire business model teetering on the edge of ruin:wow:

They arleady got burned, but just on a smaller level.

Most of their 3rd party partners over the years eventually got purchased/closed/ or signed with someone else.

Phil said it a while ago they weren’t doing those kinda deals anymore for that reason.

Why would you want to rely on 3rd parties if you don't have to? If you can be self sustainable by yourself, DO IT.

I think Sony will be fine. it's just funny hearing Jim Cryin' with all the doom and gloom

Sony will definitely be fine, more than fine. They have the strength of the Japanese market and American market.

I don't think they'll get to dominate where 3rd party games land or what they can or can't do as much anymore if everything plays out how it's looking though.

It’s obviously an exaggeration by sony in order to block the deal, but i also think it offers some insight into how sonys business actually works.

All the talk about the importance of “exclusives” but in reality its the other way around. Sonys business doesn’t work and those exclusives wouldn’t exist if they didn’t have the revenue from 3rd party games.
