Girls/women from previous generations grew up watching these soap operas or "stories" featuring white actresses playing these types of characters

Tyler Perry and these housewife, athlete wives shows just give Black women modern day versions of these stories, but featuring Black women playing these roles. Powerful,rich,glamorous women involved in all types of deceit,trickery, and drama.

It's a NO BRAINER that these shows would be successful.

The only one of those shows I halfway remember watching with my ma was some show called "knots landing"
(I think that Beverly hills 90210 show was technically a "soap" also)

This is very true and probably why I can't get with it. My mom had her stories that she'd either listen to at work or watch if she was at home. I couldn't get into the hype. shyt was hella boring and too fake for me.
