bro I feel you, it's terrible, but sadly to answer your question...yes, unfortunate there is a fair amount of Black people who suffer from low self-esteem because they're Black
I know it's not technically our fault, but at the same time fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me
Black Americans have been told by white people that being Black is a bad thing since they brought us over here
we can't keep falling for the same tricks
I didn’t want to say it, but that’s basically what I was thinking and feeling. On an individual level, if you have low self esteem you not gon be as quick to defend yourself. So when a group is fed this kinda bullshyt over decades then nothing is sacred. Everything is worthy of being torn down because it’s always emphasized that nothing is worthy of saving unless it fully aligns with the oppressors agenda.
And even then, thats transactional in nature. The same Dr. King they’d always bring up is the same one they’ll ultimately slander. The same Brother Malcolm that’s demonized will have his words twisted just enough to align his intellect with the anti-intellectualism of the oppressor.
Amos Wilson’s Blueprint for Black Power has so many of the answers. And real talk, as a book seller and reader, even I have to contend with books that challenge the bullshyt I’ve internalized over the years. Make no mistakes, change starts and ends with us. These cacs have no vested interest in doing the right thing. Even if it benefits themselves. So they waiting on them to become altruistic while we hem and haw amongst ourselves over dumb shyt keeps us here. Saying “Oh naw, I don’t read fukk that shyt” keeps us easily amused and distracted like overgrown unserious children while these dumbass cacs are allowed to run rampant. And we excuse it with “Oh, blah blah blah white supremacy” when it should be “These people are suffering from a collective mental illness and we need to take control of this situation.”
None of us would let an insane person be in charge at our jobs. And yet, we allow insane people to run the world and excuse it as some misguided, ephemeral moment of so called “supremacy” that we just have to accept. Peeling back the layers of our society exposes how absolutely ridiculous it all is.
