Sooooooo, does anyone still think ANALYTICS is a fraud, a fad, or just hype?

"Analytics" are great, not the whole picture.

I think the hostile reaction to quants has to do with the analytic crowd acting like Python, R, C++, and stochastic analysis are damn near the only tools necessary for understanding any type of complexity.

Quants tend to be guys whom possess a particular type of intelligence, and whom, sadly, believe that this type of intelligence is all that is needed.

That being said, there are quite a few Luddites who aren't up on these topics and tend toward dismissal and hostility as a result. :yeshrug:

The answer is somewhere in the middle.

Literally everyone is using it. It's like asking if breaking down video is just a fad and we're going to go back to getting everything from word-of-mouth.
Breh u a NBA stan. Most nikkas there desire times back where we just let billion dollar campaigns convince us how players are :yeshrug:

So analytics won those championships, not having the best players on the planet?
Yeah. Bad strategy comes from not using them. Analytics showed Dallas that they really didn’t have to guard Joel Anthony or Mike Bibby. Analytics showed the heat that they could get away with playing Battier at power forward and having him guard Kendrick Perkins in the finals. Analytics showed the spurs the following year that their best strategies on defense were to sag off wade and double the birdman near the rim to protect the paint. Analytics showed golden state that they could get away with assigning bogut to guard tony Allen. shyt the whole LeBron era heat offense and the current warriors offense were built off analytics and the movement of big men who can shoot is too. Find me a team that’s won recently without using it. The last team to do so was probably the 2009-10 lakers when they were running the triangle.

The nerds have taken over.

I've said it a million times, analytics is fine for cac sports like baseball that are one-off events rather than continuous play.

It doesn't work for a sport like basketball that is free-flowing and about spacing and moving without the ball.

If you cacs can keep this shyt away from black sports it would be much appreciated.

What championships is it winning in basketball?

You're an idiot. :mjlol: The Warriors are the poster-boy of NBA analytics. 3's are worth more than 2's, so what does the warriors do? The NBA has envolved into a 3 point shooting contest and lumbering bigs in the paint are no-longer needed. You thi k the game involved in that direction on its own? :russ:

So analytics basically showed what a lot of hardcore NBA fans already knew or speculated? Not saying that it isn't a great tool, but still.... ..

Pretty much, it usually just backs up what you can see on the court with actual stats and shyt, it's useful but it's not the magical be all and end all that some people think it is.

Analytics can be informative, but people take it too far.

There's always that guy that will swear that analytics will show that a guy like Doug McDermott is a better player than Dame Lillard.
