The issue with Mexican food in NYC from what I’ve been told is that the Mexicans in NYC are from a certain part of Mexico that cook a certain type of way which is not relatable to Mexicans who live in Cali or Colorado and Chicago.

This is what a Colorado Mexican told me when she moved to NY.

But the best place for Mexican food in NY in my opinion is Sunset Park Brooklyn.
Exactly. The Mexicans in Chicago are from a different area as well.

And I can find someone born and raised in Mexico or California who would say the opposite (like my ex).. it is what it is. Btw I went to undergrad in Los Angeles and live on n NYC now. So I kinda have some basis on what I’m talking about.

I don’t think anyone with any type of non biased and decent food palate would put nyc Mexican food against San Diego/ Los Angeles.

That’s like putting most pizza areas against nyc (and I’m from Chicago so I should be biased but I believe NYC pizza is the goat). The region and specialization just hits different...
Uhhh ok... so you telling me having had tacos all over so cal and many parts of Mexico that my opinion on this one spot is invalid? I don’t understand what you trying to prove.

They're mostly from Puebla and Mexico City while LA is home to people from all over Mexico.

There's also pretty much no Mexican middle class in NYC, so the food tends to be quick, easy, affordable things like tacos and tortas.

NYC is underrated for Mexican food but it's not gonna match some place like LA or even Chicago with a much more diverse Mexican population

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
I technically “live” in NYC but I work remote from all over. I’m ducking NYC until it gets warm again.

could you recommend some good carribean spots in Brooklyn?

Hell yea.
Kals Bakery - Haitian Food
Ali’s Roti - Trini Food
There are Jamaican spots all over Brooklyn that people will probably give 2,000 names but the popular ones that everyone knows is Fisherman Cove, Peppas, C&J and Blue Mountain.

Dominican food you’ll have to go to Washington heights and the Bronx. Funny enough my favorite Dominican spot is located in a freight entrance

:mjlol:

Amazing food and dumb cheap

Mexican food in LA is so expansive and robust..It takes years to really discover it.

Some of my favorites:
sonoratown - known for homemade flour tortillas and their chivichanga, a shredded beef & roasted tomato burrito
Torta ahogada la ramadita - carnitas on a chewy hoagie roll drenched in spicy broth
9.-La-Ramadita-3.jpg

La casita mexicana- traditional Jalisco food
Pablito’s - Peruvian/Mexican tacos and burritos in the valley
Random food cart outside circus liquor in Noho serving handmade deep fried empanadas
Teddy’s red taco- one the LA birria taco OGs
