Sorry but I can't put Andre 3000 in a Top 10 list over a Solo artist

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
I get your point, but part of the reason is because it's a duo and not 3 or more. Basically, the more you rhyme on a goat contender album, the more of a goat contender you become. It's that simple.

nah
Nah. I'm a fair nikka. If P never put out HNIC and other quality solo work. I wouldn't even entertain him being better than cats like Nas. Jay. Pac. Cube etc. I looked at him as one of the greats. But not one of the GOATs. See. I have no problem with guys like 3K being in dudes PERSONAL top 5 or whatever. Just not if ur tryna make an objective list. I can't accept it.

andre never had any business being in an objective top 10 anyway. regardless of the lack of solo.

the only reason this is even a topic is because media outlets & internet geeks done bullied outkast into goat convos.

I don't respect them on that level.

What kind of criteria is that? Snoop Dogg (The Chronic and Doggystyle), Dr. Dre (Straight Outta Compton and The Chronic), Eazy E (Straight Outta Compton), and MC Ren (Straight Outta Compton) are GOAT contenders if that's the case.

nah.

I meant it in terms of percentage of that specific album.

e.g. Prodigy delivered GOAT level rhymes on a GOAT contender album like Infamous where he did 50% of all rapping.

3 Stacks did 50% of all rapping on Outkast projects but no Outkast album is a GOAT contender.

Grand Puba did 33% (roughly) of all rapping on One For All. Even if One For All were considered a GOAT contender (which it isn't), you can't really say Puba is GOAT off that because he did less than half of the rapping.

Make sense?

On The Booth it doesn't. How many times have you seen posts arguing that Prodigy was a Top 5 MC in the mid-90's? No solo album, but people said he was better than Nas.
People didn't talk about top ten all time lists back then. The conversation was always about who was the best at the time. "Who's the best emcees? Biggie, Prodigy and Nas.":lolbron:

This is true, but I'm talking about The Booth. There's a couple of threads on here about Prodigy being Top 5.

I get what you're saying, but it looks like a reach. Even if I feel like Prodigy delivered a GOAT level performance on Infamous, how does that compete with:

Rakim
Nas
Pac
Biggie
Jay Z
Ice Cube
Scarface
LL Cool J
KRS
Ghost

^^^ These MC's have classic even GOAT contender SOLO albums. Then there's other solo works that are great or at the very least solid. They've helped shape and mold the culture, set trends, had impact and influence as SOLO artists. Infamous alone isn't enough to knock any of them from a Top 10 spot. As great as it is, it's ONE album AND it's a GROUP effort.

Of course. This is a forum for discussion. P is one of the best to ever do it.

And that's the point I'm making, if someone feels Andre 3000 is Top 10, there's not really an argument against it unless their saying he's objectively Top 10 and are trying to use features and Kast's catalog to put him there. To put him there objectively would be disrespect to the MC's who carved out legacies and created GOAT level music as solo artists.

Well... I can say that Toronto started sounding like one long Mobb Deep record after Infamous came out. Mobb Deep definitely influenced people.

But is P top 10 all time? Nah. He's in my top ten favorite but I'd say he's in the top 20-30 all time. An argument for top 10-20 could be made.

:dwillhuh: Outkast was probably the only rap group that people who didn't listen to rap were aware of outside of WuTang.

that didn't happen until 10 years after the fact when they started making records like "hey ya" and roses smell like booboo.

and even after that, theres more groups that still ring more belts outside of hip-hop than they do.
