How can they conclude where it came from so quickly?

they explained part of it in the conclusion. It’s kind of like genetic forensics. Say somebody gets shot and the bullet and casing is found lodged in a bone.
The bullet is unique, and because of its metal composition it can be traced to a source where other similar bullets are found. The casing is also unique because of the markings left by barrel rifling and the bolts face/firing pin. The shooter left a 1 of 50 supreme hoody that could have only been bought at a pop up last week.
They gradually map out the crime scene, trace and relate all the different pieces of evidence until they narrow down locations. Then they narrow down even more. A lot of that is used in archeology too. The process itself doesn’t take too long. They just do it over and over and over to make sure the results are true. I wish I knew a better way to explain it but I just got off work and should have been sleep an hour ago. That’s the fast way I could think about it when it was explained to me.
Imagine. All those lives lost and many others ruined cuz of some nasty fukks.

I hate that folks ignore the fact that if they wanted that(yes they do it, but not completely authoritarian style) they can do it at any time. These people wouldnt bother me so much if their reach wasnt made wide by the internet.
