SZA pretty much dominated. She won 4 of 9 nominations including Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best Female R&B Artist.


Usher won three awards. Victoroa Monet won two and Coco Jones won Best New Artist.

This isn't an awards show any more in terms of feel. Soul Train Awards is now what the television show was: an artist showcase especially for new artists.

It even lacks the soul that it once had. Little subtle elements like the interlude music between a performance and an award presentation is missing. I get that artists don't really attend the awards anymore, but I think they would show up if they were doing tributes. I remember the Quincy Jones Entertainer of the year award used to be hype. The Aretha Franklin Lady of Soul award was hype. We don't have none of that now.

I thought the performances were mostly great but I was confused and hella disappointed that they literally gave out ZERO competitive awards and only showed the honorary awards. That was lame as hell


If they want artists to show up then maybe they need to start considering letting them know ahead of time if they won at least one award. For multiple nominees I wouldn’t let them know if they won ALL awards or what categories but just “Hey you got one” would probably entice them to show up because at this point artists aren’t showing up and sitting in the first rows only to be embarrassed when they go 0/4 or some shyt.

Look at T-Pain and Janelle Monae, they knew they were getting the honorary award and they showed up and T-Pain performed his ass off.

Also lets make the awards actually COMPETITIVE. Usher shouldn’t be winning every damn year when he didn’t put out an album. Eric Bellinger or Anthony Hamilton should’ve won something or even Musiq Soulchild, who put out a great album this year.
