No disprespect to Roberta Flack at all!

But seriously, this was probably The Fugees biggest track.'

Too many memories of this song dominating the airwaves.

So many people loved this version...

From the ATCQ jacked drums from Bonita Applepum....the drum break was obviously from some other track...
Lauryn's vocals on this were absolutely amazing. She owned this fukking song from beginning to end.

If you were around in 1996, this & California Love OWNED the summer!

:mjcry: I miss the 90s.

I had The Score on tape...first week release buy.

I liked that it was more of an upbeat, modern version of Roberta Flack's original. I don't think The Fugees version was "better" than the original but can see why somebody would think so.

BTW, does anybody know the where the drumbreak from this song came from? I knew it was used in "G.O.D. Pt. III" on Mobb Deep's Hell on Earth.

Continuing with the blasphemous music opinion,
Do you think Wyclef's Bob Marley "No Woman No Cry" cover was better thanbthe original?

Serious question.

Oh fcuk no ofcoruse....anything Wyclef has done musically has for the most part been trash with very few
(if any)
redeemable qualities.

I mean the nikka did a song with THE ROCK...out of all people. :mjlol:

Because I prefer this version to the original even though I own both The Fugee's and Flack's albums...

yeah okay...:usure:

Let's not act like without this being released as a single "The Score" would of still went multiplatinum.

That joint was always corny to me. Think about it, when you listen to the Fugees version, do you even remember what the song was about? All the mystery and atmosphere of the original lyrics is stripped away completely. Dumb adlibs, corny beat. I always hated it from the day it dropped to today.

They shoulda left that classic alone but they butchered it.

No the Wyclef cover isn't better but the Lauryn one definitely is. Even oldies radio stations play the Lauryn version.

There are moments where a new artist can completely own an old song and take it over os their own. Lauryn achieved this because of her incredible skill.
