While, I'm find these rap sales sad and funny, or other genres suffering this much in sales?

All those CE0's signing those one single rappers, looked how that worked. :pachaha:

Folks are in here are watching rap's popularity fade from the mainstream and refuse to believe it.

Now it's "300k is the new gold, rappers are still caking off tours, etc." and I start wondering if people are saying that about their favorite rappers just to make themselves feel better...

Look, all I want is good music to survive with a little bit of party music to keep things going. But let's be real. Rappers aren't signing 360 deals for the hell of it. The options are becoming more and more limited as the amount of people trying to get put on increases. Indie labels have to be just like majors now (without the huge pockets) in order to survive.

Rappers make the majority of money on tours but tours are also the most expensive form of income to run and maintain. And venues have smartened up and started demanding more upfront because they know artists NEED the tours to survive. And with so many artists "out on tour" now, everyone can't eat like that. There's only so much on the plate.

So front if you want, but the music industry is not what it used to be, no matter what people tell you. These rappers better enjoy what's left of the market. Rap is on its way out as the most popular thing going.

One of the best albums of the year. shyt broke my heart that the same fans who bytched about Lasers wouldn't support Lupe's return to form....

Production and hooks-wise, in terms of how the album actually sounds and feels, I don't see how you can say this was a return to form. shyt wasn't bad by any means, but the shyt was still...different. :ehh: I guess my favorite Lupe is the much earlier shyt. I miss the old Lupe, breh :to: But I already bought his old albums, though, :usure: So don't try me. :smugfavre:

it wont be fixed :russ: The problem is people looking at rap as a hustle. The moment that happened it was over....so much of the soul of the music is gone. People now only buy their favorite artists albums....i remember back in the day you'd cop a album on the strength of a single. Now...pffff

I also think digital effed up the game. Having a physical medium increases attachment to the album. I could care less about a bucha files i know i can get from anywhere, at any time.

Those reasons, AND the fact that most new artists today don't know how to put an album together for some reason. (sans Kendrick)

Why is everyone acting surprised that Kreayshawn flopped? That bytch was making a mockery of Hip Hop, she's absolute trash. If she had sold anything over 5K it woulda been a DISGRACE to Hip Hop:pacspit:

if you can't sell 20,000 records why are you commercially releasing albums for pubic consumption? just be straight digital, don't put that pig spit in stores man. n!ggas out her doin 5,000 records, :why:. why not just sign a job application?

the internet be gassin dudes,. n!ggas got 300,000 followers and 200,000 likes on facebook but sell 1,000 albums, bwahahaaa.

think about it this way. u get 8000 records pressed and shipped out and sell 4k in the first month. thats not great, but then you'll for sure have some left over albums sitting in best buy so you might get a few purchases every month and amazon moves the rest over how ever many years. its a paycheck (however small :ld:) every month/year however often royalties are paid.

if you do it straight off the internet your limiting yourself to only people who buy online, check your bandcamp or website. if your freeway or sean price its to your benefit to have physical albums on a shelf. even if someone doesnt know your album is dropping, they could see it and buy it.

Not just hip-hop music, but I think urban music in general is on its' way out because the state of R&B is just sad. No new artists. No new sounds. No new anything.

And folks better not bring up Frank Ocean or The Weekend because they're overrated as all hell.

Soundscan?

Is there ANY site we can see total sales (worldwide and those retailers not on Soundscan)?
i don't think there's a way to track sales outside of the US unless you found every country's "soundscan" (i think the Aussie one is called ARIA or APRA or something) and collected all that data yourself. even then i don't think there's any way to track sales in hole in the wall shops & places that aren't on soundscan.

:childplease: They both brang a new sound to the game especially weeknd how overrated they be is irrelevant.

Yeah, when an artist gets a plaque, it's legit since the labels really know how much an artist truly sells. Of course they want those soundscans to be nice, but like you said, not everyone reports their shyt to soundscan. I believe 50 Cents's GRODT went diamond but it shows soundscanning like 6 plus million.
