LeBron needed Miami. In 2010 he probably felt he was at a crossroads in his career. He had a lot of pressure to win championships by the time he was 25 in order to validate himself legacy wise. Only after actually getting what you thought he wanted can actually get you to understand what really matters to you.

LeBron wants rings, but I think he wants rings doing it his way. And that can only happen in Cleveland. There is no other city he can win a championship for and have it mean more for him personally. And more importantly, there is no other city he can fail in getting a championship for and have it feel any less hollow than in Cleveland.

Fail in Miami or fail in Cleveland?

Fail in Phoenix or fail in Cleveland?

These are no-brainer decisions for LeBron.

As in 2010, he probably has a lot pressure coming from all kinda angles, but being 30 with two championships is a lot different than 26 and ring less. The resolve to do what you want most becomes much easier with age, success and experience.
