Um, Black South Africans NEVER forgave or forgotten about the apartheid
They just tried to move forward.

When apartheid fell in South Africa, Nelson Mandela had to run a country in which nearly all the wealthy and educated citizens had benefited from apartheid. To avoid a brain and capital drain, Mandela instituted a Truth and Reconciliation committee that encouraged whites to confess their acts of racism and be forgiven.
As race and sexual attitudes change in the United States many citizens, mostly white men, are being condemned for actions that were more accepted decades ago. While we cannot accept rape, or overt acts of discrimination, we also cannot equate insensitive or boorish acts from one’s past as deserving of the same punishments. Virginia may be stripped of elected senior officials over insensitive costume choices and a “he said, she said” sexual encounter. Who will run for public office if an old lover can derail your career with an unverifiable accusation? There are not enough saints in the world to fill our Supreme Court let alone our Congress. If South Africa can forgive apartheid, can’t we forgive blackface?
