I feel like in the black community it comes more down to hair than skin color. My lil homie from Haiti and she's darkskin with silky hair. You won't hear a soul complaining about her skin color because nikkas like her hair. Now what it comes down to here is nikkas are used to seeing that type of hair on white, mixed, or "other" women. So to get that hair texture they typically go after lighter skin women.
Of course this isn't the case everywhere. But I feel like this holds true to the diaspora.
