Yeah...that Soju will get you fukked up. But you gotta drink a lot of it. It isn't that strong.
I came in here to say basically the same thingyou would drink too if you were a stones throw away from N.Korea.
Koreans get super drunk. I used to see well-off looking middle aged women puking in on sidewalks in the middle of the day. Coworkers (male) swinging on each other and then singing and crying and holding hands. All kinds of wild stuff.
Most soju is only around 20% alcohol but it also only costs about 70 cents and is sold in every convenience store.

Damn, surprised anybody beat out Russia. That's almost as much as I used to drink in college. 
Though it would be more like sober during the week, 14+ shots between Friday and Saturday night, then hungover Sunday.

It's ironic as hell, but I was reading something for this online course I'm taking last night and it showed stats on how since the 80's, South Korea has been FAR below the rest of the developed world in obesity. Its rising, but even with that, it's not projected to reach the base of what, say,France was at during the 80's. In large part it's due to the government teaching women healthier cooking. They eat like 10x more fruit than the US, or the world, fukk idk

Soju is no joke. It may not be that strong, but because it takes on the taste of whatever you mix it with, you'll drink a lot of it before you have realized it. I used to mix it with Kool-Aid and before I knew it I had already drank like two liters of it. Made for many interesting nights in Korea.
Soju is very social. Almost insulting if you don't serve it (or so I was told).

I would pay a lot of money to be eating sam gyap sal, doing shots of soju and smoking Marlboros right now.
