Spartacus is based on a real event that happened (Third Servile War) with some embellishments, especially at the ending.

Game of thrones is a fictional tale, inspired by the English warring of royal families known as The War of the Roses (same thing White Queen is about) with some other stuff, thrown in from other historical events.
