Him being in jail and that Vibe article was the promotion. Let’s stop pretending like MATW came outta nowhere. Especially since “Dear Mama” was everywhere prior to its release. He was far from a superstar. Juice and Above the Rim was more appreciated than his actual music

:mjlol: This couldn't be more wrong. MATW came out and was #1 for four weeks, it knocked Bruce Springstein out of the top spot. It sold over 2 million copies before the year was out. With very little promotion. He was a superstar.

Then he got bigger and bigger.... no homo

Just skip over the part where I said “Dear Mama” was everywhere prior to its release. That album was far from word of mouth or without promotion dog. We don’t have to do this to elevate this nikkas status in the culture. That’s solidified. All this extra shyt y’all do is crazy.

I love pac and I dont hate Jay... I just got off his music more after Volume 3 ... I still bump every album and love Magna Carta too (which people here shyt on)

its still weird decades later than men can stan another man with complete reckless abandon

people that dislike pac say some wild shyt... they said for years he was fake thug and its all disproven... all them nikkas like me were proved more right as years went on

people in here saying he wasnt big and blah blah bullshyt ... the arguments and hate are mad dumb... the dude was fukking 19 years old ....24/25 when he did the album we are talking about. He was already a movie star at 20-21 ... how yall argue that he wasnt a star yet is ridiculous hate.... you want the nikka to be 13 headlining movies and breaking through in rap music?

then 90% of the people they stan for didnt even cut their first demo or album until mid 20s ... the whole hate shyt is super contradictory

even when I laughed at dude saying American Gangster is better ... I dont mean it personally, its cool to like someone's music more. But you gotta be real, most average rap fans cant even name that album in Jayz discography. His most cohesive albums are Reasonable Doubt, The Black Album and Blueprint. 4:44 is another amazing and cohesive album. He has alot of solid albums from start to finish and tracks on every single one. But if you arent a super fan, like Pac fans... there's alot of worse artists with better laid out albums. But I'm not gonna argue with bias and superfans... I'd argue Ghostface discography can stand right next to Jay's and Pac's. And if Ice Cube never fell off he would probably eclipse both of them easily. Pac's shyt was done at such a young age and impacted the world way different... you cant compare actual impact to stan shyt. Jay fake retiring on the black album doesnt hold the same weight as "Me Against The World" its just not the same shyt.

nikkas in here just said "American Gangster" is better than All Eyez On Me

close thread/

Jay is spittin on American Gangster. Its probably his best lyrical performance outside RD. AEOM is obviously the more impactfull album but quality wise its AG for me. AEOM is a good album but its overatted. If we talking MATW or Makaveli thats different

All Eyez On Me hasn't aged well imo 🤷🏾‍♀️.

I feel Pac is at his best when he's speaking emotionally and being retrospective among other things.

Sonically the album is his best (which is debatable) but his lyrics haven't aged well. I cringe at a lot of the lyrics on that album and honestly the vibe is just off.

Jay definitely has an album or two you could say is better than AEOM 🤷🏾‍♀️.

AEOM disc 1 is classic disc 2 had plenty of filler

It’s also more of a compilation album then a
Pac solo album

A lot of the songs were meant for other death row albums but Suge gave the hottest songs made by the camp to Pac because he wanted AEOM to be huge

I can feel you on that, its a smooth ass album and underrated at that
its honestly impossible for rap greats to really drop bad songs
not near rap greats, but actual ones. Nas, Jay, Pac and Snoop's worst album is still better than the majority of rappers
it would be ridiculous to say Jay can ever fall off, you give any of these dudes beats and its a wrap.

TYRONE GA!
'Me Against the World' was the #1 album in the country with no promotion cause Pac was in jail. I think it was the first time anyone ever had a #1 album while in jail. He was already a superstar by that point. When he went to Death Row he went from superstar to MEGA star.

He was the most popular rapper in the world when he died.

Yeah, just like I said. He blew up AFTER those first couple of albums. Nobody was calling breh the best rapper, GOAT rapper, etc. before MATW (his best album IMO). MATW got released in like Feb 95, he died September 96. 3 dope albums in less than 2 years (granted Makaveli was posthumus). Him being a movie star and staying in fukkery was crazy unintentional promo for MATW and then the Death Row Signing later that fall was crazy. To die a year later the way it happened was just...

Sorry I thought you was implying he wasn't a star until the Death Row days, that's what some people were saying and that's simply not true. 'Me Against the World' launched him into superstardom. By the time Pac dies in Sept. '96 he's the most popular and well known artist in the game.

To me all these comparisons are kinda odd anyway when you consider that Pac was 25 when he died. He made 3 classic albums by the age of 25 :wow:
