Above the fray.
why not just back the black designers that you want gucci to hire instead? if they have the high end designer brand talent then all they need is financial backing and this new brand could be hot too. but you want these racists to throw bones out there. get it together and do better rich black entertainers.
You're right.

That's what Sal said to Buggin Out, and I think people chose to ignore what was being discussed in that scene.

BO" Hey, why no brothers on the wall?"
S "Get your own place and you can put up brothers, sisters, nieces on the walls"

he has no muscle

Oh he has muscle, in the form of being a public figure with a voice and a following. But he doesn't know how to use his muscle if he thinks announcing a boycott of Gucci is gonna do anything for the average Black person who can't afford that sh!t to begin with.

His boycott is one of the most hilarious things I've seen in a minute.

I hate to to do this to Spike because I respect what he's done artistically, but I have to put the same tag on him that I put on Diddy's recent Black empowerment tweet. Gotta call BS.

Too many Black actors who were active in Spike's heyday have talked about him shortchanging.......jerking them.. and violating standard movie industry practices for me to buy into some of the stuff he's been saying and is saying today.
Clifton Powell was the most visible actor to air this out, but I've read it from others.

None of the black people who are buying Gucci give a fukk about what Spike Lee says. He doesnt influence them. His reach is elsewhere.

Never know though, he might be able to motivate one or two rappers. Imagine if Kendrick said Spike is right? Or Big Draco disavowed that outlandish Gucci sh!t he wears?

Regardless it wouldn't matter cuz the rest of us don't have the luxury of spending rent money on a belt.

As if black people are the only ones who shortchange their employees and conduct business in occasionally unscrupulous ways. Criticisms like this, which are directed towards many black entrepreneurs in multiple industries, are curiously reminiscent of what's voiced by customers who complain about the service at black owned businesses. :mjpls:

OK. Let me point the obvious differrences. Spike Lee is out here, and has been out here advocating/promoting very positive things for the community. Some of the Black people who worked with/for him say that his private actions don't match some of his public words.

Most record deals are designed to jerk artists, but don't jerk your Black artists, and then publicly make Black empowerment comments that contradict your actions.

Ok, maybe there's validity to the claims of how he conducts business. I just don't like seeing black people constantly run with this corny "he be jerking nikkas" narrative that's conspicuously circulated in every industry we succeed in, whether it's music or film. This only bolsters an already deliberately spun falsehood that black entreprenuership is janky and not of the same caliber as its non-black counterparts. :francis:
