black love, unity, and music
but Red Tails got made, is now sitting at 39% on RT, and probably lost money. in retrospect that just reinforces whatever reason people had to not invest in it

Domestic Total Gross: $49,876,377
Distributor: Fox Release Date: January 20, 2012
Genre: Action / Adventure Runtime: 2 hrs. 0 min.
MPAA Rating: PG-13 Production Budget: $58 million

The Film lost about 9 million, which is a pocket change for George Lucas.

BTW, this was for a film that was boderline trash. Imagine if the film was actually decent..:ohhh:

Spike got a right to his opinion. Tarantino is a film nerd who dabbles in exploitation, so the criticism is probly accurate. His main theme (violence) has been done more skillfully and with greater nuance by guys like Scorcese, Coppola etc...

Not buying the angle that QT is some great champion of black people, I think "dead ****** storage" effectively killed that argument. :shaq2:

I personally think Spike is a better film maker than QT but he had made more Bad movies than QT since he's done a lot of more films. But when are people going to seriously challege QT on making 1,000 "Revenge" Flicks?

Django - Black Revenge
b*stards - Jew Revenge
Death Proof - Female Driver Revenge
Kill Bill - Female Martial Arts Revenge
Jackie Brown - Female Crime Revenge

I think you see where I'm going. Let's get off "Revenge" QT. Damn, someone really must have done him dirty in his childhood. Also for the people bringing up "b*stards", it did not deal with the Holocaust in the way Django is dealing with Slavery. There were no concentration camps in "b*stards" you know why? Hollywood would of never allowed it.

Factor in DVD, TV rights, Lucas ain't lose nothing. But what Lucas gainned was the respect from Black America for fighting to tell a positive story about Blacks in War. Also it wasn't released Worldwide sadly cause a lot of companies don't think foreign Audiences will watch an all black cast. Even Spike and Tyler's movie rarely get worldwide releases. It's a really crazy game in the film industry.

Desperate? Lucas had been trying to make the movie for 20 years but the funding never came and he finally said F*ck it and spend his own money. How can you not respect that? a Man dropping 100 Million to tell a positive Black Story?. Again Say what you will about the quality of "Red Tails", it was a positive look at our History something Hollywood has avoided for way to long. For that he has my respect. Lucas even let a Black Director do "Red Tails" Also, so props from me all day. Also the movie wasn't even that bad. But the TV movie was better with Lawrence Fishburne.

Yep I saw it in theatres and thought it was ok, if it got a legit marketing and budget, the film would of easily did 100 mil.

Spike hasn't made a decent movie since Inside Man

Well he's really only Directed "St. Anna" and "Red Hook Summer" since "Inside Man". He's mostly done Documentaries and all of them have been good. "When the Leeves Broke 2", "Kobe Doing Work" and "Bad 25" were really good documentaries. I think there should be an "Inside Man 2" that movie was ILL and doesn't get the credit it deserve cause people hate on Spike.
