Yeah its kinda funny when people talk about so and so is the "next Michael Jackson", completely ignoring the fact that MJ was an absolute phenomenon is his time...nobody will ever come close to that level of having the whole world on lock like he did.

80's was crazy for black celebrities. seems we just went to the next level of superstardom. MJ was the biggest but we also had Oprah, Eddie Murphy, Jordan, Tyson, Cosby, Prince, Whitney Houston etc.

Mj's best videos for me

1) The Don't Care About Us Brazil Version- his most radical message.
2) Black Or White-this actually his most underrated ish to me.
3) Billie Jean- coolest and most mysterious ish ever
4) Don t Stop Till You Get Enough- No one ever danced so easy. soulful discos greatest moment
5) You Rock My World>>Smooth Criminal. Better song too.

Mj best songs

1) Rock With U
2) Human Nature
3) Get On The Floor
4) Wanna Be Startin Something
5) Billie Jean

One of the things that made MJ so great, is the fact that he studied the legends who came before him. From da big homie James brown, to fred astaire, Jackie wilson, etc. He was a student of the game. I remember being 6 to 8 years old, and me and my brother would rush home to listen to MJs HISTORY double disk cd. As a young nikka, I was mesmerized by the music....just goes to you that MJs music trandsended generations.

How was the documentary? I recorded it so I'll watch it tomorrow.

It would be nice if Spike Lee's Bad 25 Documentary on HBO's so it would be much better.

Dogg Whitney isn't a Legend for nothing man, "The Bodyguard" Soundtrack is the Biggest soundtrack of all time. "I will always love you" blew up something Big to the point people don't even consider it Dolly Parton's Song anymore. Also Look at Whitney 3 LP's before "The Bodyguard":

Whitney Houston: 13x Platinum (25 Worldwide)
Whitney: 9x Platinum (20 Worldwide)
I'm Your baby tonight: 4x Platinum (12 Worldwide)

She had 7 #1 singles in a row. Whitney and Janet as far as Black Women were the opposite of Michael in the 80's. Also I found out from this documentary, Michael originally wanted Whitney on that "I can't stop love you" duet but her Label didn't want her to be overexposed. It went #1 anyway but that would of been even more Epic.

Also just to add, Whitney's debut album came out in 1985, and her follow up in 1987 (same year as Bad), and both albums outsold Bad. Whitney was a SUPERSTAR...probably the biggest artist of the 80s besides Michael Jackson.

It's really :snoop: how much videos have down graded now compared to back then...the only artist to do videos on MJ's level right now IMO is Kanye..other then that..music videos have gone to shyt...

MJ REALLY laid the blueprint on how to entertain the viewer and how to create a music video. Them motherfukkers were movies!

i remember quincy jones said that michael made the thriller video because MTV wasn't playing his videos and he was the biggest artist at the time (cism) so he made the thriller movie so that there would be no way that they could refuse to play it.

Yeah, and u can arguably say its MJ is what started this wave with Thriller. He opened doors and made black people "cool" in the eyes of millions of cacs lol.

Low key u can argue he's up there with the famous civil rights leaders in opening up opportunities for black folks...in a different way of course.

:mindblown:

The MJ tri-fecta always been Off The Wall, Thriller AND Bad.

alot of r&b/soul fans that were of age back then werent huge fans of it. the people that grew up on the jacksons. i know alot of people of that ilk that werent really into it all like that. maybe because it was moreso a pop record.

i know alot of people that arent too high on thriller either and prefer mike from the 60s to "off the wall". believe it or not.

im not saying that its the majority but its a very very noticeable amount of people.

"Thriller" was a moment in history where one album literally connected with everyone in the world. They said something like 1 and every 10 people have heard or own Thriller in the world. That's insane. "Thriller" is to music what the Bible is to books, that's how many people owned it. But "Bad" still did over 40 Million Worldwide which is still a lot of damn records. It had more #1 hits but "Thriller" was just unique. Here are the Top 5 Selling LP's ever:

#1 . Michael Jackson - Thriller - 110 Million
#2 . AC/DC - Back in Black - 50 Million
#3 . Pink Floyd - The Wall - 50 Million
#4 . Whitney Houston - The Bodyguard - 45 Million
#5 . Michael Jackson - Bad - 45 Million

So It dropped 60% in sales from "Thriller", he still put up Top 5 Numbers all time on the follow up so I think he succeeded anyway. But don't get it twisted, Bad was still huge. The "BAD" tour was bigger than his Tours during the Thriller Era. Bad Michael was the Apex of his popularity, he basically was the undisputed King by the time the Bad Era ended. It was not debatable who the King of the 80's was.

One thing I always noticed Mike seemed to be at his most confident during the Bad era. The public always knew him as this shy laid back cat but during the Bad reign to me it seem his confidence level was skyhigh and he was finally comfortable with himself.

I remember when they premiered the video to Micheal Jackson and Eddie Murphy's video "Whats up with you" they showed it on fox right after the Simpson's went off. That has never been done before. A major network that was not affiliated with music at all premiering a video without it being on something like entertainment tonight. That will never be done again. You won't ever be able to find another MJ.

Goat song,
The chem with MJ and Eddie,
The vibe of the video,
I felt like MJ on the song and video had a prince vibe.
During that time prince dropped,
Diamonds and Pearls,
Both song have a mutual feeling.
