It's just an effect, like distortion or reverb. Some people use it well, orhers dont.

I just mean these dudes with no actual voice & can't hit a note. They get on auto-tune to hide the fact that they can't sing shyt.
Alicia Keys, Usher, T Pain can sing without it, etc. I don't consider you a "singer" if you can't hold a note. Anybody can add effects.

I been in a studio with the software they use. what it does isn’t on some super robotic change your voice 100% although you can do that (Cher)
What it does is corrects your pitch when your voice is SLIGHTY off key, you can’t just sing any kind of way and slap auto tune on it and boom now you sounding like a trained singer.
Also pretty much everybody is using auto tune, just not on that heavy T-pain wave

I've been in the studio with the software too & you can definitely slap auto tune on your shyt & pretend you can sing. I sang bass, I've seen these off key ass dudes do it. I agree with @PowerFist & @fckyoupayme .
One of my sons can't sing at all & is stepping up his auto tune to ride the wave. I love him but his ass can't sing.
@Jesse B. Semple That's why I asked. Saw a dude that can't play a single instrument or sing. They labeled him a "artist" & "singer" when he's just another auto tune rapper.
