Most people didn't care or made comments like "that's what he get for setting up Pac." Me personally, I was actually more shocked than when 2pac got shot cause Biggie was never involved in controversy like that. I was much more of a Pac fan than Biggie, but I did like some Biggie tracks.

It was big news even if your are wasnt into East Coast Hip-Hop or that Biggie wasnt as big as 2pac. That was still a major death given the connection and the artist's staure within Hip-Hop.

Definetly people who werent fukking with him went back and checked the Ready to Die and Junior Mafia albums again and then when Life after Death dropped I dont think there was another album that Spring or even well into the Summer that was even remotley close to be being bigger (with all due respect to Wu-Tang who were close, Master P's Ghetto D, KRS-One, Wyclef and some noted soundtracks dropping that 2nd and 3rd quarter)

I remember I was on a school trip the next morning and I didnt even check the news or anything and some kid just mentioned that Biggie got killed in the train that morning and we were surprised. Some dumbass stood up and thought that meant 2pac was alive and there was an actual serious conversation between these retarded 13 year olds that I embarrassingly called friends at the time who were entertaining the notion that Pac had somehow comeback to kill Biggie...

That whole week there was a lot of coverage on MTV and even ABC and Nightline, hard copy and all those evening news stations on Biggie's death. It felt like went on for months actually cause even before that with Pac's death and the murder being unresolved and Suge going to jail beforehand there was a lot of mainstream coverage on the East/West fued.
Can't forget all the magazines jumping on it and not just The Source and Vibe. Time magazine had a massive feature on the night of Biggie's death and the fallout the week after his death.

No question it was a massive story

Tragic. Mostly cause Biggie was really just getting started. Pac's death was still being felt. This is what made "Life After Death" so Classic. It was like Big's last will and testament to Hip Hop and the world. When that joint picked up from "Ready To Die" and Big was in the hospital and Puff was talking like "It can't be over" and then that joint flat lined and those raindrops came in to the album ending on "Your nobody till somebody Kills You". I mean I can't even put into words my feelings hearing that album. It was like OMG, did we really just lose the greatest talent ever.

Wither you think Big had something to do with Pac's shooting or not the fact is he never made an official Diss Record during the whole beef. There were a few subliminal here or there but nothing like "Hit em Up" which to me escalated the beef. Also the fact he was listening to "Goin Back To Cali" which was homage to Cali made it ever sadder. But I will say this, Biggie was not wrong for going to Cali. He had fans out there. Biggie was wrong for Going out to Cali and CHILLING there for damn near 3 weeks. That was dumb to me. He should of went to Cali, did a couple of radio interviews and maybe a show and left town. Instead he got there, started chilling and basically stayed there for the rest of his life. For people saying "It was too soon" I agree but it would of never been enough time even if he came a year or 2 years later. People were upset he was alive and Pac was not.

Big was King at that point and nobody was stopping him. But Hip Hop was robbed. Pac was about 5 LP's deep nearing the middle of his career. Biggie was still in the beginning, we only scratch the surface of what Biggie would of done for Hip Hop. Bad Boy 97 remains the most successful year for a rap label ever. The "I'll be missing you" single that also had "Always love Big Poppa" is the greatest tribute songs of all time in Hip Hop. Those songs touched people all over the world. In the end Big said it best on his final LP. He told us what Beef really was. Beef people get killed and sadly that's what happen. The final verse of his career was "Victory" but it was a bittersweet Victory cause he didn't life to enjoy his success. Everyone says "LAD" went Diamond cause he died. I say it could of sold 20 Million if he lived. He never performed a single song. He only had 1 video done, he could of went on tours, the album had singles for years. The whole situation was just tragic. I really wish he had 1 or 2 more years cause he had so much more to do.
