as young black man that wanna be rappers.

in response to http://www.the-coli.com/booth/127951-its-really-sad-how-many-black-men-try-rappers.html#.Udc4EfnVCQA

It's cool to shyt on young black men chasing rap dreams. But I see just as many young white men in garage bands. People laugh at wanna be rappers and then applaud aspiring rock stars. I know a guy that didn't re-enlist in the Air Force because he wanted to tour with his band. Nobody batted an eye. People laugh at guys making beats on their laptop but if a guy says that he plays drum in a band everyone wants to see him perform. :comeon: Hip hop fans shyt on the people that aspire to participate in it. Do people realize that everyone that is a star now was a "wanna-be" at one point?

I love my people. I really do. But somewhere in our ancestry lies the "crab in the barrel" mentality. That's all it really is to me. nikkas hate to see other nikkas do some good.

If it ain't happened by 23, I'd rethink it.

Unless its just for fun/hobby.

Why is hip hop the only profession where you have to be at the top of your field by 23? Name another artistic profession that requires you to be top tier so young. Nothing wrong with doing it as a hobby either. But people still laugh people that do it for fun. But they applaud weekend band members.

Not just hip hop, all music.

And cos you need to lay a base for when you hit 30, a famous philosopher once said being broke in your 20s is acceptable, but being broke at 30 gives a nikka the chills.

this is constantly being disproved more and more as time passes.

You and every black person like you need to read books or some shyt: you've brainwashed yourselves something serious. *all of humanity is envious*. To say that one race excels more in such a childish act than any other race makes you look like you haven't gone out much.

:whoa: I dont necessarily agree with what Im going to say and Im just bringing it up to bring a dissenting opinion on the topic but a difference between a rapper and a band is, with a band the band members are learning a redeemable skillset (whether it's drummer, guitarist, and even vocalist) that can be used even if the band doesnt pan out. They can move onto other bands, become session players for producers hell even teach others how to play. While a rapper is an all or nothing type thing there really isnt a redeemable skill that can be used if the rapping doesnt pan out...

I've had the privelege of seeing my fair share of this world. Some parts of it that should be legally condemned.

I Never said other races don't do the same but I am mostly around my people and can only share that opinion about my people.

I am white and been involved with music industry on out skirts for years. For whatever reason it seems like more black people want to be rappers than white people want to be in bands. I think its a socioeconimcal issue tho cause black people dont have role models to look up to except for entertainers really. back in the day it was drug dealers and now its rappers/singers etc.

Dawg... touring with a band and getting paid to play is entirely different from going broke trying to rap

I know a lot of brehs in bands too... they all have jobs. I can't say the same for the nikkas I know rapping. Not comparable

Artist, actors, stand up comedians, skateboarders, weed enthusist, writers are all dumb shyt I've met that a lot of white people try and become. It's just that if they fail most of them have a family that'll help them rebound where if you come from a less fortunate background there's no safety net for following your dreams. It's just so many people think its easy to rap, but when you really get into what makes someone sound good and what makes someone rhyme over a beat the difference is gigantic. Too many people think its easy and Im talking about from most races. shyt I could go on Datpiff right and pull up a bunch of shytty tapes from black, white, brown, and asian people. Like L&HH said though playing an instrument will open a few more doors then just being able to rap. Learning how to make beats along the way can also be a benefit you inherit from rapping tho.
