Thats good for you and im not calling you a liar but if you think as many kids are starting 'garage bands' as people are trying to be rappers, you are sadly mistaken.

I guess I should say speak about how it's looked down upon for guys to want to be rappers vs people being in a rock band. Aspiring rappers are laughed at without remorse.

shytty attempts at bands get made fun of too. There is just a lot less of them. They also don't use social media the same way.

90% of aspiring rappers these days are horrible and deserved to be laughed at. When you have people hit you up with shytty music on a daily basis for a long period of time you start to see the problem.

Cats need to start traveling and getting out more, plenty of dudes of all colors in bands/groups performing on amateur nights,in hotel lounges and at music festivals...and not just rock, It's Jazz,R&B,Soul,Country, electro, fusion bands,Mariachi...

but garage bands? :heh:... You a habitual searcher for yard sales breh?

The difference between these cats, and the typical dude who's trying to be a rapper... is that they usually go to work in the mornings, get off work...then go make music.

and with most of them, they've been playing such instruments for years...and aren't just going half cocked into something...hoping they can make some shyt happen.

Artist, actors, stand up comedians, skateboarders, weed enthusist, writers are all dumb shyt I've met that a lot of white people try and become. It's just that if they fail most of them have a family that'll help them rebound where if you come from a less fortunate background there's no safety net for following your dreams. It's just so many people think its easy to rap, but when you really get into what makes someone sound good and what makes someone rhyme over a beat the difference is gigantic. Too many people think its easy and Im talking about from most races. shyt I could go on Datpiff right and pull up a bunch of shytty tapes from black, white, brown, and asian people. Like L&HH said though playing an instrument will open a few more doors then just being able to rap. Learning how to make beats along the way can also be a benefit you inherit from rapping tho.

You can get a degree in Art History, Theater and Journalism... aint no rap degrees out there.

but let's be real right now breh... white people aren't as well off as you want to believe they are.. most people of all races, are probably 1-3 paychecks from being without a place to live...and live paycheck to paycheck.

you gotta get out more breh.

It takes talent to be even in a mediocre band.

Anyone can rap struggle bars over an instrumental.

I have no idea what the hell white people are doing in they garages besides leaving the door wide open like idiots:heh:...so maybe that's the reason that thread wuz talking about black males unless it took a turn for the worst since I last checked it.....I guess your opinion on this is gon all depend on the ammount of rappers u know, and how god awful they are...I ain't gon tell nobody not to live they dreams cuz I got stupid azz dreams myself:myman:....black folks clearly the most talented race in the world, but maybe we gotta diversify and not put all the eggs into the basket of rapping:whoa:...bcuz 99% of nikkas I know is straight cheeks status....I done bought plenty cds outside the liquor stor/gas station hoping to be pleasantlysuprised, but never:why:....maybe the nicer way is to tell nikkas to learn they strengths better, know the industry better, and not to bang they head on the same wall over and over....maybe that's nicer than just sayin "u gotta stop this:comeon:"

Edit-matter of fact fuk that last nice part I just said:rudy:,I see y'all nikkas on here on a daily basis tellin legendary rap nikkas to stop rappin purley cuz they old or ain't the same rapper they wuz in they prime.....y'all almost got me with that ol fake azz "bu bu but we need to be supportive of each other as black men"...fuk outta here, nikkas been hatin on ace hood for no reason other tha he look like a wnba point guard siince he been out,and wanna get on a high horse cuz 8m tellin nikkas wit 0 chances they need a backup plan....not the talented nikkas but the REALLY wack ones which is 90% of the nikkas I done heard if not more......y'all almost got me with that fake outrage:russ:

Other genres get shytted on too when your doing it past a certain age.

At my previous gig one of the truck drivers that picked up loads was in a band, lead singer and guitarist...he had to be around 40 still doing it making a little doe from it, but mainly doing it for the love...main difference between this and a lot of hip hop artists ive run across...people pursuing them at least have a semi stable 9 to 5.

Im from philly and have hung around the outskirts of the music scene here for some time, i decided to pursue another career around 25 because it just wasnt there. There was a cat playing high school football that was the number 1 ranked wide receiver in the country a couple months back that could have gotten a free ride to any school in the country...you can look this up, homie turned down the scholarships he had because guess what?! He wanted to rap...ive seen quite a few people throw away legitamate opportunities to pursue rap, and im quite sure many on here have seen the same....

Black people, we gotta realize...we dont have the time to fukk around...if u gonna go at go hard or dont go at all. Too many half ass and let the rest of the world pass them by...

but let's be real right now breh... white people aren't as well off as you want to believe they are.. most people of all races, are probably 1-3 paychecks from being without a place to live...and live paycheck to paycheck.

you gotta get out more breh.

Living from pay check to pay check in a rather peaceful community is much different then living (minimum wage) pay check to (minimum wage) pay check in a crime-ridden ghetto. In case you haven't heard there is a job crisis in all of America (yes, even middle-America), so who do you think got hit the hardest? If you guessed the "hood" you guessed correct.

Sure all white people aren't living with an excess of money, but they're living conditions are far more stable than the kids in the inner city trying to find a way out. Most of them own property aka they weren't thrown into tight ass projects or apartment buildings with no employment opportunities and a TERRIBLE education system, so they have leverage.

Look at some of the richest African-American's in the world; majority (if not all) of them are entertainers! So who are they naturally going to gravitate towards?

Money is a culture.. if you don't understand money it can be your worst enemy. How is a child from the ghetto supposed to fully understand economic culture if very few people around them do though? They're parents have no real relationships with banks and financial institutions because no bank will give them a loan to start up small businesses, so how are they supposed to understand what it means to leverage your portfolio so you can diversify and maximize your net worth? White kids have more people around them who are familiar with these things though, so naturally they have an advantage.

These aren't excuses; this is reality. We could all sit in here and say, "why not be a doctor or a lawyer!" - do you know how expensive med/law school is though? A lot of brothers who excel in sports wouldn't be able to attend the universities they did/do if they didn't excel in sports. What mass scholarship programs do they have setup for black kids pursuing careers in medicine or law?

It's real deep. I understand all of them can't make it, but why shoot down those brothers dreams?

I kind of agree but being decent at an instrument and having some sort of musical knowledge can open doors up for you in lots of lanes. Also rock music went through that period as well where everyone would laugh at you being in a band or your parents would freak out but it stood the test of time. A better comparison would be DJ's I have a bunch of white boy friends who claim to be DJ's and they get clowned regularly. Every white boy thinks they are a DJ now and they all suck and everyone lets them know but they swear they going to make it.

Here is a prime example of why rappers get laughed at/ignored/talked down/whatever more than your average only do gigs at home band...

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oi6IMpO_P58]Nico Montana -Montana [Official VideoShot By A|Lexx] - YouTube[/ame]

Every upcoming rapper shoots the same video, holding the same guns, wearing the same colors, saying the same things in their raps, with the same generic names.

If a 'garage band' came out and named themselves Pearl Jelly, wrote a song about a kid getting bullied named 'Jonathan', shot a youtube video of really generic shots of a class room and a guy singing in front of a black sheet, and weren't very good at what they did they would get made fun of just the same.

You don't ever see that with bands. However if you go on Twitter right now there is about 3,000,000 'Nino Montanas' who are writers, actors, CEOs, producers, graphic artists, all at once.
