Coming from the Dave Chappelle/Damon Wayans thread. People were shytting on on Damon Wayans like he ain't he most talented Wayans brother (imo) and a legend

I thought this only happened in Hip hop because it's "a young genre" . But now it's spilling into comedy and art at large ???:dahell:

Black artists deserve way more respect than this

Above the fray.
OP

Didn't see the thread you referenced, and don't care to, but agree with your take. Not for the entire community, but definitely among a big element of people here.

Sometimes people make comments that seem as though they were dropped out of the sky as adults, and weren't raised by a family + community of BLACK people.

Don't understand or care about anything that came before them, and think that they invented the wheel.

Lack of fathers in households is most likely the root of it.

I think this is a fair question…but based on what inspired you to ask it, I’m not sure how to answer.

What is truly worth our reverence?
Brehs dismissing Damon Wayans for Dave Chappelle basically

To answer ur second question, excellence. And in this case, excellence within the black community

This isn't a black thing. A lot of (young) people don't respect anything or anyone unless they personally impacted them in some way

I actually believe the opposite is more of an issue. I believe that we tend to glorify and worship black historical figures and old viewpoints to where we don't even try to offer any analysis or critique of them or the ideas they had. Folks are bringing 1960s talking points to a 2022 world and it's ridiculous.

Irreverence is a good word to describe how we often deal with things as a community and the people before us. Good plug op.

I think the surge of online communities and social media have done this. It was a time when if your kid came home acting different you'd ask who they've been hanging out with. Now your kid can be in their room all day and come out a different person.
