If more people LIVED by what that statement meant, OUR communities wouldn't be in half of the shape that they're in right now...
Everybody is out for self, they want to be "noticed" or they do things so that people give them attention...Then once they get that attention they were seeking, they want the right to tell everybody "don't judge me."
We got away from "community" because people increasingly cared more and more for self, and less for the COMMUNITY. Back when I was coming up, you listened to elders, didn't disrespect them because you knew that if you didn't, you were liable to get several whoopings. One from them, then they'd tell ya folks and THEY'D beat you. Now, we've given kids every way to NOT respect elders. Nobody can tell a kid that's acting up to "stop" less they have to now get into a confrontation with that child's parent(s) because "You DISRESPECTED my child." Doesn't matter if they're tearing the store up or cussing some senior citizen out.
My basic point is, parents have gotten younger, with the same or LESS education so they raise these children as "friends" or by proxy bc they "still want to have a life too..." The leeway to discipline/check somebody's disrespectful child(ren) has been taken away, and replaced with a "don't mess with or tell me what to do with MINES" attitude...
