There's certain people who give off a certain aura who many are intimidated by. They either very intelligent/articulate and that makes them uapproachable and the "hoodrat" won't feel like she can stimulate his mind with conversation or keep up with whatever he talks about. Or the guy is "different" like a @Yusuke or @FmrToken . She won't even know how to interact with those types because they won't have the same interests.
