I really enjoyed that Bruce Willis Apocalypse joint for PSX. Winback for N64 was a fun cover-based shooter. Beetle Adventure Racing was a fun little racer that was quite different.
The Armored Core series, the Bloody Roar series, Snowboard Kids, Mario Tennis, many, many Dreamcast games, Nightmare Creatures, Joe and Mac, Secret of Evermore, and don't even get me started on computer games from back in the day...
Super Punchout (SNES) Everybody talks about Mike Tyson's Punchout but this is easily the better game.
Super Double Dragon(SNES) People want to talk beat'em ups they usually run to the usual suspects such as streets of rage or final fight, but this game was better than both and have way more moves. It was definitely the pinnacle of the series.
The Combatribes (SNES) Another really overlooked beat'em up from the 16bit era. Very tough game as well.
Grand Theft Auto 2 (Dreamcast/PC) Let's be honest most people started playing the series with GTA3, but the top down view is classic and just the overall freedom in the game @ the time was amazing.
Road Rash (The Complete series) - Feel like nobody really ever talked about the game like that but it was fun as hell. Especially road rash 3 on the Sega Genesis where you put the code in and got the super black bike *memories*
Metal Slug (The Complete series) - The answer to contra and nobody really fukked with it because it was a Neo Geo/Arcade exclusive for years until it made its way to consoles.
Dead Nation (PS3) What if you took Left 4 Dead and Super Smash TV and mixed them together and you'd probably get this game. Hard but fun as hell. Probably one of the best free games I've ever got.
All those old vs. games from the 90s...X-men children of the atom, x-men vs. street fighter, marvel super heroes...they nailed it with marvel vs Capcom but I really appreciated these 3 in the arcades/psx.
Art of Fighting/Fatal Fury/KOF/World Heroes/Samurai Showdown - All the neo geo fighters are underrated imo nobody mentions them at all.
A lot of classic games aren't gonna be in a random, average gamer's top 50, especially for young people who missed the impact of those games. But that doesn't mean that they are "underrated."
i always answer this question with jade empire and beyond good and evil. i know the games scored great everywhere, but you rarely ever see these 2 get talked about now. beyond good and evil seemed to be forgotten until they made that hd remake. i can't believe the op actually mentioned that lord of the rings game. i had a blast with that one on the ps2. i'm also going to throw in saints row 3. i'm only calling this one underrated because i've seen alot of people say they don't fukk with it. personally, it's one of the most fun games i've ever played. i'm not even talking just sandbox either.
Just because people aren't talking about certain games anymore does not make them underrated. It means that new stuff has come out since then so there's new stuff to talk about.
