RUN DMC signed with PROFILE instead of DEF JAM back in late 82 because at the time Russell Simmons who was managing RUN DMC under his newly formed RUSH MANAGEMENT firm and had yet to obtain distribution for his upstart DEF JAM label which was started in a college dorm along with his friend Rick Rubin....
Russell tried for years to break RUN DMC out of the Profile Contract, but they signed a long term multi-album deal that left the group mostly in the red during their tenure on the label.
