I do not think this is a good measure, looking through both if you were to read both out loud having seen neither before, the second excerpt is relatively easier than the first. The main challenge of Tolstoy’s work being the German man’s accent, and the French and Russian words that may be difficult to initially pronounce if you are not familiar with how consonant and vowel sounds tend to be pronounced in those languages.
