Without a doubt were better than Westside Connection..they were pretty dope, def have some classic tracks, Sticky was cool...production carried them farther than the gimmick. There's def some classic songs on their first 3 releases, esp the first 2

"Yell Rap" aged pretty terribly...I'll say not corny but def gimmicky. Mobb Depp came around and did the same thing w/o the try hard screaming, over aggressive try too hard-ness, and did it so much better w/ the understated nonchalant tone.

Songs like this...beat if fukking madness

fukking pure grime:

Can't say either of their first two albums are "classic" other than that a lot of time has passed since their release. Both are solid 4 mic albums tho.

:pushes up imaginary glasses like Stringer Bell:

Onyx birthed Wu Tang. They definitely wasn’t corny. No more than corny than other artists of that era. Naughty by nature comes to mind but Onyx was grimey like Mobb Deep

I know Onyx been around for a while longer than the Wu, but any of the Wu say they were a legit influence? Bacdafucup def helped pave the way for hardcore east coast rap.

It had its place.

Speaking of corny, but a dope name
Maybe they aged like Milk but at that time you saw them everywhere, everybody had a NBN T-shirt in the early 90s. We can go down the rabbit hole and say Kris Kross was corny for the backwards jeans but Jermaine Dupri doesn’t get the respect on his name that he deserves. Speaking of corny…

Your last sentence is where I’m coming from, I’ve never read that they said directly that Onyx was an influence. They never had beef that I’m aware of.
