Every black person I talked to from a brother working in a herbal shop from Philly to the sister and husband selling edibles on the boardwalk to the filmmaker selling his work on the beach was mad welcoming and all around good people.

The black population is SoCal is so small that a lot of black kids grow up being in the minority and don't have a strong sense of identity or cultural pride. And since other races tend to look down on blacks they try to distance themselves from their blackness thinking they will be accepted by others. Plus it's trendy to have a mixed baby so a lot of blacks don't want anything to do with each other. Aloooooot of these black people are getting called ****** behind closed doors because they date racists. It's not as bad in places like baldwin hills/inglewood where there's a higher amount of blacks but there's still a lot of emphasis on being light skinned with good hair especially if you're a black woman. I've also noticed a lot of non black women prefer the lighter skinned black men with light eyes and obvious white ancestry. My son is clearly mixed with colored eyes and I always get little young white girls fawning over him saying they want their kids to look like him. There are still a ton of black couples all over but it's definetly becoming less common.

I was around quite a few Cali peoples when I was in college & most of them said what I bolded in your comment & noticed it that in some of them. I've lived in NY my whole life & nearly haven't seen mentality in NY'ers as much.
