As far as the content when it comes to the music channels, imo this is what changed everything.

This is what started BET, VH1 and MTV to transform into reality channels instead of music. The execs realized the shift in focus was coming, and jumped ahead of the game.

Major networks moved on to seek out, and capitalize on, more "mainstream" demographics which is why there were less, and less black sitcoms near the end of the 90s. By the mid-2000s, WB and UPN

were pretty much the last two staple channels for black sitcoms. They both began to phase out their black shows, move away from the genre all together and of course merge to follow in the same direction

of their main competitors.

We sold out for the short money, instead of playing the long game. The only avenue we can still get a foot hold is in the digital space.
